First launched in 2003 as a Winemaster’s Dinner, the Toothfairy Gala has become the BC dental community’s capstone evening at the conclusion of the Pacific Dental Conference. From its inception, it has paired a celebratory awards dinner with philanthropy, highlighted by a live cake auction that has raised significant funds for rotating beneficiaries such as BC Cancer Foundation and Save a Smile.
Over the years, the Gala has evolved into a highly anticipated night of recognition, generosity, and community spirit—bringing together dentists, partners, and friends to honour excellence and give back.
In addition to its fundraising tradition, the evening showcases the BCDA Awards, which recognize outstanding leadership, professional achievement, and service to the profession and the public.

The Save a Smile (SAS) program, initiated in 1991, supports the urgent dental care needs of children under the age of 19 from low-income families and has funded treatment for over 2,800 children in BC.
In 2009, the UBC Faculty of Dentistry joined as a key partner of the SAS program. The partnership provides opportunities for pre- and post-doctoral dental students to gain valuable experience caring for children and collaborating within a community-based, public health partnership model, which is a core component of their practice management upon graduation.
The SAS program and UBC Dentistry partnership includes public health staff who screen patients for clinical and financial eligibility and ensure that 100% of donated funds are directed to patient care.
